Objectives and competences
The course introduces students to the key components of the U.S. legal system and legal reasoning.
Intended learning outcomes
This course provides students with an introduction to the most critical elements of U.S. legal institutions and legal reasoning, including the principles and practices of common law, statutory law, adminsitrative law, executive law making, and constitutional interpretation. Understanding the U.S. legal system and legal reasoning enables students to enhance their perspectives on global and comparative legal questions and equips them to become high caliber practitioners.
Learning and teaching methods
Lectures with students’ active participation; discussing specific legal problems and cases at the tutorials.
Assessment
Class participation (10%),
Written examination (90%).
