Content (Syllabus outline)
1. Introduction: What is a project? What is project management? Relationship between project management, program management, portfolio management, organizational project management and strategy. Project contribution to the company value. The role of project management.
2. Project management in construction and in real estate business.
3. Organizational influences on project management: Clusters and styles. Communications. Structures. Assets. Environment. Project stakeholders and governance. Project team. Project life cycle.
4. Project management processes and their integration.
5. Quantitative methods in project management processes and integrations: Statistical methods and forecasting. Graphs and networks.
6. Project scope and time managements.
7. Quantitative methods in time management.
8. Project cost management and net present value of activities and cash flows.

Objectives and competences
The purpose of this course is to acquaint students with the importance of project-based approach to successfully achieve the objectives and with success factors of the project, such as quality preparation, good design team with a competent and experienced project manager at the helm and effective project organization, supported by an appropriate project culture.
In practical course part students will learn the methods and techniques of preparation and control of the project and the project management team. Project work and project management are becoming a constant and indispensable tool in management, achievement of strategic goals and in raising the competitiveness of organizations.
Project approach of tasks implementation allows: successfully achieved strategic and operational objectives, effective management of time and money, which is based on the systematic preparation of the project using proven methods and techniques of planning, time, resources, costs and revenues; efficient utilization of the human potential of the company through the appropriate choice of project organization, differing career prospects and bigger motivation of employees, faster application offers with lower risk that the acquired business could not be carried out within agreed deadlines and costs.
Learning unit contributes to the development of generic and subject specific competences:
– Knowledge of project-based approach to achieving the objectives;
– Ability to understand preparation processes, tools and methods to successfully implement the project;
– Ability to analyze, synthesize lessons learned and anticipate solutions and their consequences;
– Ability of the flexible transfer of knowledge into practice;
– Ability to achieve strategic and operational objectives;
– Skills for organizing teamwork;
– Communicating with experts from various fields of real estate and various stakeholders.
