Concept of law.
Institutional foundations of law.
Legal system and its components.
Systematization of law.
Types and methods of legal science.
Theories about the nature of law.
Objectives and competences
The course introduces students into legal concepts and legal thinking. It is a fundamental course to begin with legal studies.
Intended learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding:
Students acquire a basic knowledge on the essence of law, its characteristics and general principles, the most important components and its connection with other social phenomena; a knowledge necessary for studying and understanding the contemporary law and its institutions; a knowledge on basic legal concepts, legal areas and legal terminology that is necessary for studying other courses.
Learning and teaching methods
Lectures with students’ active participation; discussing specific legal problems and cases at the tutorials.
Assessment

Written examination.
